Coach Oppegard, “Yuna Kim’s artistry has reached a new level”
[Xsport] Cho Young-Joon 2011-03-31

“This season Yuna’s new programs were focused on artistry. I focused on trying to make her artistry stand out.
Her artistry has reached a new level with her new programs,” said Oppegard.

‘Figure Queen’ Yuna Kim’s coach Peter Oppegard arrived in Korea.
Oppegard arrived on the early hours of March 31 through Inchon International Airport. This is his first visit to Korea.
Oppegard showed up at the Taereung Indoor Ice Rink which is located in Gongreung-dong, Seoul at 1:40 PM to train with Kim.

During the 15 minute open press training session, Oppegard paid close attention to detail and pointed out parts of Kim's steps and her hand movements.
Kim practiced parts of her new short program ‘Giselle’ with Oppegard. After warming up, Kim practiced her step sequence, spins, and choreography.

“This is my first time in Korea. Glad to meet you. I’m very happy to see Yuna again.
This season’s World Championships have been moved from Japan to Russia.
Yuna is adjusting well to these changes and there are no problems in our preparations for Worlds,” said Oppegard after the open press training.

“Yuna’s programs were completed when she was in the U.S.
The thing we need to focus on now is to bring up her body strength and stamina during the remaining time.
We plan to keep things balanced up to 3 weeks before the competition and drive up her body strength and stamina 2 weeks before the competition,” added Oppegard.

“I’m glad to see my coach again but in the same time a bit nervous.
Even though preparations were a bit delayed in the process of Worlds being rescheduled,
my coach is now here and we will prepare for the competition just like we have been doing,” said Kim.

“We plan to do the same as we did in the U.S. We haven’t made any drastic changes.
We will simply continue to do what we always do ? faithfully practice,” added Kim.

Oppegard will train Kim at Taereung until the World Championships.
Kim plans to leave for Moscow, Russia on April 22 with Kwak Min-Jung and Kim Min-Seok who are also competing at Worlds.
