Yuna Kim’s free skating music ‘Homage to Korea’ has been kept under wraps until know.
It has been now revealed that it uses a newly arranged version of Arirang, using both traditional Korean music and Western music.

One of the music arrangers, Seo Hee-Tai, conductor of the Millennium Symphony Orchestra, revealed some details about ‘Homage to Korea’
in an interview with Herald Biz on the 21st.
“Yuna Kim’s ‘Homage to Korea’ uses music by the ‘Daul Project’ which is a group of musicians who work to globalize traditional Korean music.
Kim’s music uses Arirang and other pieces arranged by the ‘Daul Project’. It’s a arranged version of Arirang so when you hear it, it will sound quite different.
A balance of traditional Korean music and Western music made this Arirang into a new version of Arirang, one that could reach out to people from all over the world,” said Seo.

Members of the ‘Daul Project’ such as Seo and Ji Pyung-Kwon, music director of MBC, and many others, arranged this piece and Kim came across the music by chance.
Kim and her agency asked if they could use the music and the members gave their consent.
Seo was also the conductor of the orchestra at Kim’s ice show in 2009.

“The Arirang that was used (in Kim’s program) and many others will be performed (in upcoming concerts) and introduced to the public.
I will continue to strive to globalize traditional Korean music,” added Seo.

All That Sports(ATS), Kim’s management, confirmed this news.
“It’s true that we used some parts of Arirang that the ‘Daul Project’ arranged, with Conductor Seo’s consent.
Parts of the music will be revealed at the practices that start on the 24th, and the entire music will be revealed at a full time rehersal,” said Koo Hee-Sung of ATS.

Note: Seo was the conductor for the live orchestra in Yuna’s 2009 Ice All Stars.
We can speculate what the music may be like from his other works.

The rearranged ‘Moonlight Sonata’ in IAS was a combination of traditional Korean music and Western music, an orchestra.

Or perhaps it will be somewhat similar to Seo’s orchestra performance of Arirang?

Only a few days more to wait!
