Kim Yuna leaves Toronto for Los Angeles
Coach not determined
By E-Daily SPN Lee Seok-Mu on 06/09/2010 at 09:51 AM

‘Figure Queen’ Kim Yuna, who parted ways with her coach Brain Orser, will leave Toronto, Canada; a city that has been her training ground for the past four years. Kim’s new training ground will be Los Angeles, United States.

“‘2010 All That Skate LA’ will be held in October 2-3, and Kim has a role as a UNICEF international ambassador. The increase in these activities will require her to travel to the U.S. often and it was decided that training in Los Angles would be more effective,” Kim’s management, All That Sports said.

“Kim’s new coach has not been decided yet, but she will search for a coach while she trains in LA. Meanwhile, Kim will train at East West Ice Palace, where it is known as Michelle Kwan’s personal training rink, while searching for a coach,” AT Sports added.

Los Angeles is a city that has a special meaning to Kim. Kim won the gold medal at the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships that was held in LA, and she was awarded an
honorary citizenship on August 7, 2010 which was designated as ‘Yu-Na Kim Day’ by the city.

Kim will arrive in LA on September 6 to participate in the press conference for the ‘2010 All That Skate LA’ which is to be held the following day at the Pickwick Ice Center in Burbank, California. Kim will be accompanied by Michelle Kwan, who has not performed in the U.S. for the last four and a half years.

Fevers’ Comments:

According to All That Sports, the change of Kim’s training rinks was not due to the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club or Orser putting pressure on Kim to leave.

Kim holds an annual membership at the Cricket Club so she can train there anytime if she chooses to do so. AT Sports said that the change was partly to receive her choreography (Shae-Lynn Bourne, Kim’s short program choreographer is based at the Granite Club) and also partly for a change in environment for a fresh new start.

AT Sports added that training at the Granite Club is a temporary situation and since Kim is currently searching for a new coach, there is a possibility that her training grounds may change in the future as well. AT Sports expressed that they wish to put the unwanted controversy behind them and to concentrate on training.

However, the Granite Club was only for temporary training, and Kim is now moving to LA for training as she continues on searching a new coach. Kim said that she would want to wrap up the unwanted situation and concentrate on training.

Above is AT Sports clarification to the Korean media for the reasons for the change in Yuna Kim’s training grounds. It is unfortunate that the Korean media (those that provide English articles) failed to convey all the details given by AT Sports.

We hope that this will be helpful in understanding the change in Kim’s training grounds.

AT Sports has not given an official comment, however we feel that this is not a problem.
We believe that if there is a need to do so, they will. Focusing on the upcoming 2010 All That Skate LA show is currently their priority.
May the 2010 All That Skate LA be a success!
